The R&A launched the Women in Golf Charter in May 2018, supported by England Golf and other organisations from across the industry.
The purpose is to encourage more women and girls to play the game and join clubs, to inspire more families to enjoy golf as a group leisure activity and to open up more opportunities for women to work within the golf industry.
Lincoln Golf Club are pleased to be involved with this international initiative and received formal accreditation in 2021.
The Charter is a statement of intent from the golf industry and Lincoln Golf Club intend using it to develop and implement a strategy for enhancing gender balance at every level. We intend to achieve this not just by the Charter Commitments detailed in our objectives but also to use the Charter as a tool to encourage a new approach to decision making throughout the club in the future .
Since accreditation in 2021, several of the Club's Charter objectives have been met and significant progress has been made with others. For example, Lincoln Golf Club now has red and yellow tees rated for both genders, for both competitions and general play.
We therefore decided to renew and refresh our objectives for the next three years and these are itemised in the LGC Women in Golf Charter ‘24
The signed copy of our revised Women in Golf Charter can be found by clicking here. This document not only provides details of the initiative but also the objectives for our club and how we intend to achieve them. At the Club, progress towards those objectives is monitored by the Charter Steering group, comprising the WIG Charter Champion, the Lady Captain, the Manager and the Assistant Manager.
We regularly monitor our progress and ensure that Members are kept updated with our achievements. Whilst some changes may seem smaller than others, such as a change to our terminology and approach, others will be much more visible- such as the introduction of more mixed competitions. However all changes, whether large or small, are playing a part in developing an improved culture and environment for women in golf.
